About - Patty Homer, CPDT-KA, ABCDT

Before starting Good Pup, I worked for many years as a veterinary technician and veterinary hospital manager as well as starting and running a successful dog day care in the Seattle area.  I am a founder and president of HEARTland Positive Dog Training Alliance, a group of 30-40 positive reinforcement trainers in the KC area. In addition to my 20 years of hands on dog experience, I graduated and am certified through the Animal Behavior College (ABCDT) and am certified through the Certification Counsel of Professional Dog Trainers (www.ccpdt.org).  I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (www.apdt.com), Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (www.svbt.org), and HEARTland Positive Dog Training Alliance (www.trainerswithheart.com)

My experience in the veterinary field and as a dog trainer gives me a unique approach to observing and enhancing the life of my clients and their dogs.  I feel it is important to address a dog’s mind, body and spirit when developing a training or behavior modification program.

I grew up in Kansas City with pets of all kinds – dogs, cats, snakes, chickens, cows, horses, peacocks, ducks, geese and guinea pigs.  My husband and I currently live with 2 rescued dogs, Jett and Mickey, Cocker Spaniels.  My passion is helping people share their lives with pets – peacefully!

I believe that teachers should never stop learning.  In order to stay current on the latest and greatest scientific developments, canine learning theory and new training and behavior modification methods I constantly seek out continuing education opportunities.
